The Talbott, a historic landmark in Chicago’s Gold Coast, has completed a full-scale renovation and officially joins Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection—a portfolio of over 330 independent hotels across the world – each hand selected for their inherent craft and distinct perspective on design. This milestone marks a bold new chapter in the hotel’s legacy, where timeless elegance meets modern individuality. As part of the Autograph Collection, The Talbott reflects the brand’s belief that beauty without heart is meaningless—with every detail telling a story, from its curated art program to its warm, layered interiors.
A Holistic Transformation
From check-in to room relaxation, the renovation reimagines every aspect of the property, including all 178 guestrooms, public spaces, and event areas. A consistent design thread—touches of gold, warm textures, curated art, and thoughtful local references—pulls through every space to tell a unified and authentic story.
Design That Tells a Story
In partnership with Studio 11 Design, the renovation reinterprets the Gold Coast’s historic elegance through a warm, layered palette—caramel leather, brownstone red, antique white, and touches of gold. Curated artwork, craftsman-style millwork, and richly upholstered furniture give the interiors a sense of permanence and personality. Guestrooms evoke timeless comfort with sage green tones, vintage-inspired elements. Amenities such as Nespresso coffee machines, Grown Alchemist bath products, and K-three vintage blue speakers offer comfort and style, while locally curated mini-bars bring a taste of Chicago’s artisanal food scene—with selections sourced from neighborhood purveyors to highlight the city’s culinary creativity.
Throughout the hotel, art is used as narrative—a mix of bold, modern, and classically influenced works create a dialogue between past and present. The design draws inspiration from nearby institutions like the Art Institute of Chicago and the surrounding architectural legacy. A standout feature is a special collaboration with Chicago-based illustrator Nicole Cicak. Her original hand-drawn sketches of the hotel breathe life into the brand, appearing across guest touchpoints throughout the property. Cicak’s illustrations bring a nostalgic yet whimsical perspective, adding a personal and artistic dimension that reflects the hotel’s spirit of individuality and creative expression.
The Gallery Room: Designed for Connection
The Gallery Room hosts daily ‘Gallery Gatherings’ for hotel guests —casual social activations featuring classic games like chess and checkers, light entertainment, seasonal programming, and food & beverage tastings curated by our chef. These experiences are designed to spark connection and conversation in a warm, classic, and savvy setting. Newly added wooden doors allow the space to transform into a private dining room or breakout meeting area when needed.
NEW Restaurant – LAUREL
Debuted in May 2024, LAUREL offers Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with a focus on seasonal ingredients and elevated yet approachable fare. With 100 seats on its outdoor patio along tree-lined Delaware Street, it has quickly become a neighborhood gem. Echoing the allure of its cuisine, Laurel’s ambiance exudes sophistication along with layers of airy European charm, reminiscent of both Mediterranean hospitality and the cosmopolitan charm of Chicago’s Gold Coast.
Led by the talented Executive Chef Dino Tsaknis, Laurel’s menu showcases a vibrant fusion of local, highly seasonal ingredients from the diverse region of the Mediterranean.
Events & Wellness, Reimagined
The hotel’s event spaces have been rethought for today’s gatherings. The Reed Room offers a refined, tonal finish palette with decorative lighting and inset wall panels, ideal for corporate meetings and social events.
Upstairs, the former second-floor meeting room has been transformed into a sleek, state-of-the-art fitness center with views over Delaware Street, offering guests the perfect balance of wellness and luxury.
Meanwhile, the Gallery Room has been reimagined for flexibility. With modular furniture and a framed TV that hides behind bold artwork when not in use, the space easily transitions from lounge to boardroom or private dining.
