CHICAGO, IL – The Neighborhood Hotel Little Italy proudly marks one year of serving the healthcare professionals, patients, and families connected to Rush University Medical Center and the broader Illinois Medical District. Located on Taylor Street in Chicago’s historic Little Italy neighborhood, the boutique hotel has quickly become a preferred lodging option for traveling doctors, nurses, medical students, and those visiting loved ones undergoing care.
What began as a thoughtfully designed hospitality concept has evolved into a vital support hub for the medical community — offering stylish, short-term accommodations just minutes from world-class healthcare institutions including Rush, UI Health, Stroger Hospital, and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.
Roughly 50% of our stays over the past year have been directly tied to the healthcare system and UIC. From visiting physicians to post-op patient families, the demand is strong — and growing. We’ve designed a hospitality experience that meets those needs without sacrificing warmth, privacy, or design. Matt Shanley, Head of Revenue & Operations at The Neighborhood Hotel
The hotel’s mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites has proven to be a strong fit for the market — offering the flexibility needed to accommodate solo travelers, care teams, and families alike. Each unit is fully furnished and thoughtfully laid out to support both short- and extended-stay guests seeking comfort and convenience.
This unique positioning and commitment to service have not gone unnoticed. In 2025, Tripadvisor awarded The Neighborhood Hotel Little Italy a Travelers’ Choice Award, placing it among the top 10% of hotels worldwide based on guest reviews, satisfaction, and hospitality excellence.
A Model That Works — and Scales
Unlike traditional hotels or corporate rentals, The Neighborhood Hotel strikes a unique balance: furnished, apartment-style units with hotel-level consistency and elevated design. Its Little Italy location is walkable to key hospitals while offering guests a sense of neighborhood charm — something that resonates deeply with both medical professionals and those navigating complex healthcare journeys.
Encouraged by the success in Chicago, the company is now developing plans to bring this model to other urban medical districts across the country.
We see a major opportunity to scale this concept to cities like Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, and Minneapolis — anywhere you find dense clusters of top-tier hospitals and transient medical populations. What we’ve built here works — and we believe it will resonate nationally. Jimmy Georgantas, Head of Finance & Investment Management
Our goal is to replicate what we’ve built here: high-quality, design-forward spaces tailored to the needs of medical travelers and their families, added Founder & CEO Jonathan Gordon. We’re not trying to blend in with the hospital system— we want to stand along side it as a great neighbor.
